Mark Webb grew up in Southern Africa and graduated from Medical School at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg in 1992.
He completed his basic surgical training in Birmingham before entering the Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery training program on the Manchester Rotation. He became interested in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and had further training in this area under the care of Mr Len Funk at Royal Salford Hospital and then completed the Reading Shoulder Fellowship with Mrss Steve Copeland and Ofer Levy.
Having been appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2006, he set up the Chester Hand, Elbow & Shoulder service. He has grown the Upper Limb service and now has 3 colleagues and a number of specialist physiotherapists the opportunity to develop the Upper Limb Service. He now leads a team that includes three other Upper limb surgeons including specialist Paediatric upper limb surgery who all collaborate to offer a comprehensive trauma and elective service for the population of Cheshire and North Wales. The service has a regional reputation for training the next generation of shoulder and elbow surgeons. He started work at the Grosvenor Nuffield in Chester in 2007.
He has established a patient-centric practice focussing on patient needs offering minimal invasive options such as guided injections, needle fasciotomy or hydrodilatation and then works with selected therapists to maximise the outcomes of treatment. When indicated he enjoys all aspects of Shoulder and Elbow and Hand surgery, including the treatment of Sports injuries, arthritis and fractures. He has a keen interest in arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques. He is a recognised high volume arthroplasty surgeon on National joint registry ( Surgeon Profile - NJR Surgeon and Hospital Profile (njrcentre.org.uk). He is happy to share his outcomes (PHIN - Mr Mark Webb ). He collaborates in NIHR randomised trials including recently RAPSODI - Health Sciences, University of York to improve patient outcomes for the future.
Training remains a core part of his practice. Along with colleagues from Manchester and industry he created a number of shoulder arthroscopic courses focussing on both basic and advanced skills. Subsequently he`s been an invited member of faculty in numerous courses in Arthroscopic and Sports Injury Surgery, both national and international.
